PlanWin
PlanWin is designed for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of program work, with a
particular focus on international relief and development agencies. It addresses the data
management needs of program staff at all levels of an organization, as well as
communications and fundraising teams.
A flexible, structured design organizes a large amount of information so it can be
navigated consistently. The backbone is a data structure that defines relationships among
organizational units and data elements chosen from a palette of about 18 form types, with
options that control how each form works.
- Data entry with permissions, search, and filtering
- Standard and custom reporting libraries
-
Distributed client-server databases with replication—central offices, program offices,
and laptops can share data even in locations with unreliable Internet
FASWin
FASWin is an accounting program that can stand alone or integrate with PlanWin to provide
accounting for program management.
- Double-entry general ledger focused design
- Multiple currencies with one designated base currency
- Flexible account structure defined by the customer
- Journals for receipts, disbursements, and general entries
- Annual budgets with initial and adjusted amounts
- Full reporting set, plus Excel export to other accounting systems
- Same replication mechanism as PlanWin for office-to-central transmission
Custom Development
Our focus is small projects that typically range between 50 and 250 hours of developer time,
spanning about one and a half to eight months depending on current workload. We charge
$60/hour for small projects that fit within the scope of our expertise.
Larger work can be broken into manageable portions and delivered over a longer period.
Contact us when you are ready to talk about your next project.
What kind of projects?
We have worked with nonprofits and small businesses with needs such as:
-
Replacing costly off-the-shelf licenses (or unwieldy paper and spreadsheets) with a custom
solution that pays for itself through savings and productivity
-
Web applications that give customers access to tools while keeping proprietary business
logic under your control
-
Scaling beyond spreadsheets with database-backed web apps—often to about a hundred
simultaneous users on modest hardware, or thousands with cloud services
-
Integrating data across systems via APIs (experience includes Salesforce, custom XML web
APIs, QuickBooks, and various database engines)
-
Updating existing custom software when it fits our experience, with a clear cost estimate
Technologies
Most modern projects are web applications using the Django framework with Flutter for the
user interface and PostgreSQL for the database, deployed with Docker on physical servers or
cloud VMs. Flutter lets us target the web, Apple App Store, and Google Play. We also have
extensive experience with Delphi and the Firebird database for Windows desktop applications.

PlanWin and FASWin were originally designed by and for Mennonite Central Committee.
IDS was formed to broaden that design so it could be useful to other organizations.
